Do you wake up at the same time during the night with the same ache, pain, or discomfort? Have you ever noticed a flare in a symptom at the same time of day? If so, are you curious as to why that happens? The greater our understanding of how our body works the better control we can have over it.
Each of the 12 meridians (a meridian is a pathway in the body in which vital energy is said to flow) of the body is associated with a two hour time period on the 24-hour clock. That time period represents the time of peak function for that meridian. Each meridian governs an organ system and the associated internal functions along its pathway. They are each associated with a season, an element, an emotion, and other individual characteristics. The meridians all work together to ensure the proper flow of energy and blood throughout the body.
When symptoms of illness occur repeatedly at specific times, it indicates an imbalance or dysfunction of the associated meridian. When one meridian is imbalanced, the others often follow suit, and then multiple symptoms associated with different organ systems pop up. Fortunately, various therapies can help bring these meridians back into balance and resolve your symptoms! Acupuncture, herbal therapies, brain/body exercises, PRT counseling, and other modalities can help restore that balance. When utilizing PRT counseling we address the unresolved emotions that can lead to an imbalance in the body, therefore affecting the organs. When the emotions come into an integrated state the body will follow.
Here is a chart showing the times of day and the associated organ and emotions connected to it.
